WordPress has a new AI tool that will write blog posts for you
WordPress is getting a sleek new AI plug-in that can generate and edit text. The tool is called the Jetpack AI Assistant and is available free to WordPress.com users “for a limited time,” while other Jetpack users get 20 free requests and have to pay a monthly $10 fee after that. It’s the latest example of AI text-generation software, but its availability on one of the world’s biggest blogging and content management platforms will spread this technology further still across the web.
The assistant is the work of Automattic, the company that owns WordPress.com and contributes to the development of the open-source WordPress platform. Automattic describes the tool as a “creative writing partner” that lets users “generate diverse content at your command, significantly reducing the time and effort required in content creation.”
Windows 10 Is Being Phased Out. Here's What That Means for You.
With no more major updates to Windows 10, now is a great time to update to Windows 11.
Windows 10 version 22H2 is the current and final version of the operating system, though Microsoft said it will continue to release monthly security updates for all Windows 10 editions until it reaches end of support on Oct. 14, 2025.
A website designer’s job often entails tedious and time-consuming tasks like colour-correcting photos or creating code samples for individual web design elements. Until now, we’ve been unable to perform these types of tasks without human curation. That’s because these tasks require the human ability to make quick decisions.
But, we’re in 2023. Artificial Intelligence (AI) today is way more advanced than it was just three years ago. Can AI finally streamline the most tedious aspects of web design and free up designers’ time so that they can focus on the more creative aspects of their jobs? Yes, and no.
Many experts worry that the rapid development of artificial intelligence may have unforeseen disastrous consequences for humanity.
Machine learning technology is designed to assist humans in their everyday life and provide the world with open access to information.
However, the unregulated nature of AI in its current state could lead to harmful consequences for its users and the world as a whole. Read below to find out the risks of AI.
The emergence of artificial intelligence has led to feelings of uncertainty, fear, and hatred toward a technology that most people do not fully understand. AI can automate tasks that previously only humans could complete, such as writing an essay, organizing an event, and learning another language. However, experts worry that the era of unregulated AI systems may create misinformation, cyber-security threats, job loss, and political bias.
For instance, AI systems can articulate complex ideas coherently and quickly due to large data sets and information. However, the information used by AI to generate responses tends to be incorrect because of the inability of AI to distinguish valid data. The open-access usage of these AI systems may further promote this misinformation in academic papers, articles, and essays.
Coding with ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, and other AI tools is both irresistible and dangerous
In many ways, we live in the world of The Matrix. If Neo were to help us peel back the layers, we would find code all around us. Indeed, modern society runs on code: Whether you buy something online or in a store, check out a book at the library, fill a prescription, file your taxes, or drive your car, you are most probably interacting with a system that is powered by software.
And the ubiquity, scale, and complexity of all that code just keeps increasing, with billions of lines of code being written every year. The programmers who hammer out that code tend to be overburdened, and their first attempt at constructing the needed software is almost always fragile or buggy—and so is their second and sometimes even the final version. It may fail unexpectedly, have unanticipated consequences, or be vulnerable to attack, sometimes resulting in immense damage.
An SSL certificate is a digital certificate that authenticates a website's identity and enables an encrypted connection. SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, a security protocol that creates an encrypted link between a web server and a web browser.
Companies and organizations need to add SSL certificates to their websites to secure online transactions and keep customer information private and secure.
In short: SSL keeps internet connections secure and prevents criminals from reading or modifying information transferred between two systems. When you see a padlock icon next to the URL in the address bar, that means SSL protects the website you are visiting.
Since its inception about 25 years ago, there have been several versions of SSL protocol, all of which at some point ran into security troubles. A revamped and renamed version followed — TLS (Transport Layer Security), which is still in use today. However, the initials SSL stuck, so the new version of the protocol is still usually called by the old name.
Add that extra layer of security. Get SSL protection, it's FREE.
If your website is powered by the WordPress page-builder Elementor, double-check if you're using this popular plugin. Because, if you are, hackers can easily stage a complete takeover of your website thanks to a newly discovered security flaw.
Security researchers at Patchstack have released a new report(opens in a new tab) about a concerning cybersecurity issue related to the WordPress plugin Essential Addons for Elementor. The plugin provides users with an assortment of pre-built WordPress blocks and templates for use when creating or updating their website.
"This plugin suffers from an unauthenticated privilege escalation vulnerability and allows any unauthenticated user to escalate their privilege to that of any user on the WordPress site," writes Patchstack in its report.

If you own a domain or manage a website, you’ve undoubtedly come across name servers. These machines are responsible for moving traffic around the internet, but what is a name server, exactly? And more importantly, what do they do?
In basic terms, name servers are useful for connecting specific URLs with the correct IP address of the site’s server. But properly explaining how they work and why they are useful is a little more involved. We’ve gathered everything you need to know about name servers, what they are, and why they’re vital to making the internet run.
Simply put, name servers organize and route traffic across the internet. When you enter a website name in your browser bar and hit Enter, your browser starts a process of decoding the website you’re looking for and routing your traffic to the right web server. The name server sits in the middle of this process, holding all of the records for which websites are located where.
The domain name—that being, the website name you enter—isn’t easy for a computer to understand. The IP address—a string of numbers with more specificity—is much easier to digest. Name servers translate the domain name into an IP address, connecting information that’s easy for humans to understand with information that’s easy for computers to understand.
You can think of the process like a map. A city or street address is great for most people, but an experienced cartographer is more interested in coordinates. For browsing, it’s easier to enter “forbes.com” for most people, but a computer is more interested in the specific IP address of the web server you want to access.
With the domain name translated into an IP address, the name server can then route your request to the server with the website you’re looking for. This process is almost instant. Although it takes multiple steps, your browser can ping the name server, receive a response and direct you to the website you want in a matter of seconds.

Web Fonts
► What is WebFonts? -WebFonts is a technology that enables people to use fonts on-demand over the Web without requiring installation in the operating system. W3C has experience in downloadable fonts through HTML, CSS2, and SVG. Until recently, downloadable fonts have not been common on the Web due to the lack of an interoperable font format. The WebFonts effort plans to address that through the creation of an industry-supported, open font format for the Web (called "WOFF").

What is CSS? -CSS is the language for describing the presentation of Web pages, including colors, layout, and fonts. It allows one to adapt the presentation to different types of devices, such as large screens, small screens, or printers. CSS is independent of HTML and can be used with any XML-based markup language. The separation of HTML from CSS makes it easier to maintain sites, share style sheets across pages, and tailor pages to different environments.
What is XHTML? -XHTML is a variant of HTML that uses the syntax of XML, the Extensible Markup Language. XHTML has all the same elements (for paragraphs, etc.) as the HTML variant, but the syntax is slightly different. Because XHTML is an XML application, you can use other XML tools with it (such as XSLT, a language for transforming XML content).
